About this treatment

Emergency Dentistry at Brighter Smile

Dental emergencies do not wait for a convenient appointment slot. A severe toothache, a broken or knocked-out tooth, a lost filling or crown, facial swelling, or bleeding all need attention quickly, swelling in particular can escalate fast. Our emergency line is (604) 441-1996. Because we have an endodontist and a periodontist in-house, most urgent problems are resolved here in one visit instead of being referred onward.

Why it matters

Seen quickly, treated properly

  • A direct emergency line

Call (604) 441-1996 and speak to us about what has happened. We will tell you what to do right now and get you in.

  • Resolved in one place

Root canals, surgical extractions, and gum problems are all handled in-house, so an emergency rarely turns into a second appointment somewhere else.

  • Pain dealt with first

Getting you out of pain and controlling any infection comes before anything elective. Longer-term repair is planned once you are comfortable.

  • Best chance of saving the tooth

A knocked-out adult tooth can often be re-implanted if you act fast, keep it in milk or saliva, never scrub it, and call us immediately.

What to do

If you have a dental emergency

  1. 01

    Call the emergency line

    (604) 441-1996. Describe what happened. We will give you first-aid guidance straight away and arrange to see you.

  2. 02

    Stabilise it at home

A knocked-out tooth goes in milk or saliva, held by the crown not the root. Rinse with warm salt water for pain; use a cold compress for swelling.

  3. 03

    Assessment on arrival

We examine and x-ray the area to find the cause, not just the symptom, and tell you what needs doing today versus later.

  4. 04

    Treatment and follow-up

We relieve the pain and treat the underlying problem, then book any definitive repair (a crown, implant, or restoration) once things have settled.

Emergency dentistry FAQs

Not covered here? Call (604) 971-0791. We'll give you a straight answer.

Severe or worsening pain, facial or gum swelling, a knocked-out or badly broken tooth, uncontrolled bleeding, or an infection with fever. Swelling especially should never be left, infection can spread quickly. A lost filling with no pain is urgent but not an emergency; call and we will fit you in soon.

Pick it up by the crown, never the root. Do not scrub it or use soap. If it is dirty, rinse briefly in milk or saline. If you can, place it back in the socket; otherwise keep it in milk or in your own saliva and call us immediately. Re-implantation is far more likely to succeed within the first hour.

We do our best to see genuine emergencies the same day. Call (604) 441-1996 rather than emailing, the phone gets you an answer fastest, and we can advise you on what to do while you are on your way.

Yes. We assess, remove, and provide aftercare for impacted, crowded, or infected wisdom teeth in-house. Patients regularly describe the extraction as faster and more comfortable than they had expected.

It depends entirely on what is wrong. We assess first, then tell you the cost before treating, except where immediate action is needed to control pain or infection. The CDCP and most insurance plans cover emergency examinations and many of the treatments that follow.
